LAWTON, Okla. -- No. 17-ranked Midwestern State crushed three home runs but it wasn't to overcome Cameron's big fourth inning as the Aggies came away with a 6-5 win in Game 1 here Wednesday to snap the Mustangs' 10-game winning streak.
Â
MSU junior catcher
Kim Jerrick led off with her 19th homer of the season while senior outfielder
Courtney Bingham drilled her fourth long ball of the season to culminate a three-run fourth to stake the Mustangs to a 4-0 lead.
Â
Midwestern freshman Kat Batey held the Aggies to three hits over the first three innings and appeared to have worked her way out of a one-out single to Stephanie Anderson in the fourth when Micah Foutch lined out for the second out of the inning. But Jill Ledford drew a five-pitch walk allowing Cameron to turn over the order.
Â
And the Aggies cashed in.
Â
Leadoff hitter Spencer Ferrell sent a two-run single through the left-side of the infield and Carley Allerheiligen reached on an infield single to plate another run to pull Cameron to within 4-3 before Tara Martini launched a three-run home run to right field to give Cameron its first lead of the game at 6-4.
Â
Senior first baseman
Christina Roosmalen answered with her seventh homer of the year in the fifth to pull MSU back to within a run at 6-5, but that's as close as it would get.
Â
Cameron's Samantha Betts didn't allow a hit the rest of the way to improve to 10-14 while allowing five earned runs on six hits with six walks and two strikeouts.
Â
The Mustangs did have the tying run thrown out at the plate in the top of the seventh. Freshman outfielder
Katelyn Vinson and
Shelby Carter reached on consecutive two-out errors as Vinson was tagged out at the plate trying to score on an outfield miscue all the way from first base.
Â
Haley Howerton joined Roosmalen with two hits each to pace MSU's six-hit attack.
Â
Batey suffered her first loss in her last six decisions to fall to 16-6. The Plano product allowed six runs - all earned - on seven hits in four innings.
Â
Midwestern State slipped to 38-13 on the season and to 15-8 in LSC play while Cameron improved to 14-29 and 7-16.
