Javelinas can't clear Wall: Frosh leads Mustangs to 8-4 comeback win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Freshman Chelsey Wall's three-run homer highlighted a six-run fourth inning to key No. 19 Midwestern State past Texas A&M-Kingsville 8-4  Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

MSU completed a sweep of the Javelinas to match its longest winning streak of the season at 10 while improving to 38-12 on the season and to 15-7 in Lone Star Conference play.

Texas A&M-Kingsville appeared to be in complete control building a 4-2 edge by stealing MSU's modus operandi of power with two homers by Adela Gomez and another by Bailey Offill to construct the lead.

Midwestern State senior Christina Roosmalen struck for her sixth long ball of the season to give the Mustangs a short-lived 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. It marked the 22nd consecutive an MSU has homered in a game.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's Denise Arnold came on in relief of Katrisha Arocha, who allowed two unearned runs on three hits over three innings, in the fourth inning and cruised through her first two innings of work.

Then she allowed MSU freshman Katelyn Vinson to reach on a passed ball following what should have been the second out of the inning. Roosmalen followed with a single up the middle before Chelsey Wall cleared the center-field fence for her fifth homer of the season to give MSU a 5-4 edge.

The Mustangs tacked on three more unearned runs highlighted by Courtney Bingham's RBI single to right field and Kelley Schaefer's two-run single to center field to push the lead to 8-4.

MSU freshman Laci Belovsky allowed four runs on 10 hits in seven innings with two strikeouts to improve to 22-7, while Arnold dropped to 6-18.

Jerrick, Roosmalen and Wall had two hits each to pace the Mustangs' attack.

Texas A&M-Kingsville dipped to 12-34 and 2-21.
