WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 27 Midwestern State locked up second place in the Lone Star Conference and the number two seed in next weekend's LSC Championship as the Mustangs beat No. 17 Tarleton State 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
Midwestern State (14-5, 4-1) also bolstered its grasp on the number two spot in the South Central Region with it's eighth straight win. Tarleton (11-10, 3-2) lost for the third time in its last six matches.
The Mustangs got the win behind the strong play of freshmen
Kayla Casey and Madeline Schorlemmer who collected three of MSU's five points.
The duo claimed MSU's only doubles win at No. 2 with an 8-2 win against Melanie Barnes and Ivana Zecevic. Then Schorlemmer downed Zecevic at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-3.

Scott Linn felt may have been the key point in the match.
"Kayla made a great come back in the third set," Linn began. "She was down early after dropping the second set and really roared back. I'm very proud."
The point actually evened the score at 4-all with
Fatima Clementino's win at No. 6 over Silvia Nieva 6-2, 6-0.
MSU's
Lauren Pineda won the match with a three-set 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Marina Rull at No. 5.
"This was a great win for our program," said Linn.
The TexAnns started with the lead after doubles. TSU's No. 25 ranked team of Alicia Perez and Karla Martinez won at No. 1 over
Sarita Adhikary and Pineda 8-6, while Makenzie Mitchell and Rull beat MSU's
Taylor Coffman and Clementino 8-4 at No. 3.
TSU also took the top two singles points, with No. 49 Perez beating Adhikary 7-5, 6-3, while Martinez took Coffman 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2.
The Mustangs wrap up regular season play on Sunday by hosting St. Edward's in a women's and men's doubleheader. The Senior Day match starts at 1 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center with ceremonies honoring the seniors just prior to match time.
