MSU senior Sarita Adhikary teamed with Lauren Pineda to win at No. 1 doubles and lead the No. 27 Mustangs to a 6-3 win over No. 31 St. Edward's on Senior Day at the MSU Tennis Center on Sunday.

Mustangs win ninth straight, beat St. Edward's 6-3

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs won their ninth straight as they knocked off St. Edward's 6-3 on Sunday at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
The No. 27 Mustangs  upped its record to 15-5 and closed the regular season with the victory, while No. 27 St. Edward's fell to 10-7.
 
"This was a great win for us," said MSU coach Scott Linn.  "It was an important regional match and helps us keep our momentum heading into the conference tournament."
 
The Mustangs jumped out to the early lead after doubles and used the last four singles spots to put the match away.
 
MSU chalked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles with Sarita Adhikary and Lauren Pineda taking an 8-3 win over Alexandra Khadhyzan and Florence Boinon at the top spot with Madeline Schorlemmer and Kayla Casey beating Paige Rachel and Rafaela Haegele 8-5 at No. 2.
 
Casey, Schorlemmer and Pineda, the Mustangs trio of freshman, all added singles wins along with Fatima Clementino.
 
Casey beat Florence Boinon 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, Schorlemmer took out Haegele 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, Pineda downed Francesca Chahor 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 and Clementino outlasted Katherine Sullivan 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 6.
 
St. Ed's got wins with Chahor/Sullivan at No. 3 doubles over Taylor Coffman and Kendra Casey 8-6, and at the top two singles positions.
 
SEU's Khadhyzan beat Adhikary 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at the top, while Rachel won at No. 2 over Coffman 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
 
The Mustangs, who earned the number two seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, get a first round bye in the tourney that starts on Friday.
