FORT SMITH, Ark. – The 24th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs had little trouble in dispatching the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions 9-0 in non-conference action at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
 
The Mustangs, 12-5 overall, dropped the Lions of the Heartland Conference to 6-8 on the year after bouncing back from having their five-game win streak snapped.  MSU has now won six of its last seven matches.
 
"The team did a good job focusing today," said MSU coach 
Scott Linn.  "Fort Smith is a tricky team and we came ready to play."
 
MSU grabbed the lead right away by first sweeping doubles, led by the Mustangs top duo, ninth ranked 
Luke Joyce and 
Colby Meeks who ripped UAFS' Chris Ramirez and Jorge Salazar 8-2.  
Kyle Davidson and 
Austin Crawford followed suit at No. 2 with an 8-6 win over Clay Sandefur and Matt Tabler, while 
Tomas Grejtak and 
Zack Santagate handed Caleb Gunsch and Sean Manning an 8-4 loss at No. 3.
 
Then Joyce, ranked 44 th nationally, led the clean sweep of the singles handing UAFS' No. 1 Manning a 6-0, 6-2 defeat.   Davidson won at No. 2 over Ramirez 6-4, 6-1, as Crawford won at No. 6 against Gunsch 6-3, 6-0 and 
Kacper Boborykin dropped Tabler 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.
 
Only two singles points were extended to three sets, with Meeks beating Salazar 6-1, 5-7, 10-3 at No. 3, and 
Franko Siljeg downing Sandefur 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.
 
"It was a good day all the way around," added Linn.
 
Midwestern is in action again on Monday when it hosts St. Mary's at noon at the MSU Tennis Center.
