#19 Midwestern blasts 16th-ranked Bronchos in Game 1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 19 Midwestern State matched a program single-game record with four homers and exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning to roll to 15-6 run-rule win over No. 16 Central Oklahoma.

Freshman designated player Katelyn Vinson got the Mustangs started with a three-run blast as part of a four-run second inning. It was her fifth homer of the season to give MSU the early 4-1 lead.

Freshman shortstop Shelby Carter belted her fourth homer of the season with a shot over the left-field fence in the fifth inning to push the Midwestern advantage to 6-3, but Central Oklahoma clawed back to tie the game in the top of the sixth.

Kacie Edwards led off with a single off of the left-field fence and Hayley Hudson singled down the left-field line to setup Brooke Zukerman's three-run homer off of the left-field foul pool to knot the game at 6-6.

The Mustangs put the game away with a big sixth inning.

Freshman Chelsey Wall was hit by a pitch and Carey Campbell drew a four-pitch walk to set up a three-run homer by Kim Jerrick -- her 11th long ball of the season -- to give the MSU a 6-3 lead.

But MSU was far from finished.

Freshman Haley Howerton singled followed by a Courtney Bingham double to the right-field gap. Both came around to score on Shelby Carter's two-run single to the left-field gap to put the advantage to 8-3.

Christina Roosmalen drew a walk before Vinson narrowly missed her second homer of the game as UCO left fielder Devyn Frazier knocked the ball back into play off of her glove to limit her to an RBI single.

Freshman Chelsey Wall ended the game with a three-run shot over the left-field fence for her first collegiate homer.

MSU starter Kat Batey claimed the win to improve to 8-4 on the season. The Plano native allowed six runs - four earned - on 11 hits while walking four.

The Mustangs rocked UCO ace Kalynn Schrock for her third loss of the season. Schrock allowed nine runs -- seven earned -- on six hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.
