Mustangs complete sweep of #16 Central Oklahoma, 4-1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Courtney Bingham and Shelby Carter delivered two-run homers to lead 19th-ranked Midwestern State to a 4-1 win to complete a twin bill sweep over No. 16 Central Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs recovered from a season-long five-game skid to win their last three and improve to 23-9 on the season.

MSU returns to Lone Star Conference play with a three-game series at Incarnate Word later this week. The Mustangs play a single game at 7 p.m. Thursday night in San Antonio and wrap up the three-game set with a doubleheader Friday beginning at noon.

Bingham, a senior outfielder from Arlington, blasted her first homer of the season on a two-run shot to center field to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Central Oklahoma had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning on Kacie Edwards' RBI single up the middle to plate Ally Dziadula, who reached on a leadoff double down the left-field line.

It was the only run the Bronchos would muster off of MSU freshman Laci Belovsky, who improved to 15-5 allowing one run on seven hits in the complete game victory. The Grangerland product fanned three and walked one.

MSU extended its advantage in the fifth inning as Courtney Bingham ripped a double to the left-field gap to set up Shelby Carter's second homer of the day - two-run blast to left field. It was her fifth homer of the season.

Bingham led the Mustangs' nine-hit attack by going 3-for-3 while Carter, Christina Roosmalen and Katelyn Vinson had two hits each.

UCO freshman Nicole Brady took the loss in her collegiate debut. She allowed four runs -- all earned -- on nine hits in six innings.

The Bronchos fell to 20-7 on the season.
