WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State picked up a strong win on Saturday, beating Northwest Missouri State 7-2 at the MSU Tennis Center.
No. 40 MSU (8-5) made it back-to-back wins with the triumph, while Northwest Missouri (5-4) lost after a pair of wins.
"I was very, very proud of our women for winning the way they won," said MSU coach
Scott Linn. "They handled any challenges extremely well and finished very strong."
MSU's No. 2 doubles squad of
Sarita Adhikary and
Lauren Pineda beat Gisela Font and Natalia Galindo 8-2, while the Mustangs No. 3 duo of
Taylor Coffman and
Fatima Clementino beat Stephanie Mannix and Emily Hoffman 8-2.
In singles, Coffman came through in three sets at No. 2 to beat Galindo 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, as
Kayla Casey won at No. 3 over Alexis Bartek 6-4, 6-3, and Madeline Schorlemmer took No. 3 against Font 6-2, 6-3.
Pineda was a winner at No. 5 over Mannix 6-0, 6-2, and Clementino beat Hoffman at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
The only losses came at the No. 1 positions, and both close.
NWMSU's No. 22 ranked doubles pair of Camila Quesada and Bartek beat MSU's Casey and Schorlemmer 8-6, before Quesada came back to win at No. 1 over Adhikary 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.
"(Northwest) is a team that wins a lot up north," said Linn. "Our girls stayed with them and played our game, and finished out the match strongly."
The Mustangs play again next Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Cameron in Lone Star Conference action.
