Belovsky blanks 'Belles to snap five-game skid, 6-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Laci Belovsky weaved a four-hit shutout and Carey Campbell drilled a three-run blast as the 19th-ranked Mustangs salvaged the third game of the series 6-0 over Angelo State here Saturday afternoon.

Belovsky allowed single hits in four different frames while logging two strikeouts on her way to her fourth blanking season to help MSU snap a season-long five game skid.

Campbell drilled her fourth homer of the season as part of a four-run fifth inning allowing the Mustangs to finally make ASU starter Mary Kate McKay pay for allowing runners in six of her seven innings.

MSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Belovsky reached on a bases loaded infield to score Kelley Schaefer. It was the first of three innings in the game that the Mustangs loaded bases on McKay, who fell to 8-6 allowing six runs - five earned - on 10 hits in six innings.

Midwestern again loaded the bases in the fourth inning as Christina Roosmalen on a leadoff double while Katelyn Vinson and Campbell reached on infield errors before Haley Howerton walked to force in Roosmalen to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage.

MSU placed runners on each base in the fifth on singles by Schaefer, Roosmalen and Vinson before wild pitch pushed across a run. Campbell followed with a blast over the left field fence.

Schaefer, Roosmalen and Vinson paced the Mustangs' 10-hit attack with two hits each as MSU improved to 21-9 on the season and 5-4 in Lone Star Conference play.

Midwestern plays host to No. 16 Central Oklahoma for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
