No. 31 Midwestern State beats No. 25 Northwest Missouri 6-3

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State extended its winning streak to five straight Saturday and ended Northwest Missouri State's six-game winning streak as the Mustangs beat the Bearcats 6-3 at the MSU Tennis Center.

No. 31 Midwestern State (11-4) handed No. 25 Northwest Missouri (7-2) its first loss since Feb. 23.

"I'm proud of the way we played," said MSU coach Scott Linn.  "The guys showed how tough they were today, with four matches in four days."

The Mustangs set the tone by sweeping the doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

The South Central Region's top-doubles pair of Luke Joyce and Colby Meeks beat the Central Region's top duo of Sergio DeVilchez and Luis Altimeres 8-1 to start, as MSU's Kyle Davidson and Austin Crawford won at No. 2 over Guilherme Narducci and Rafael Bugiga 8-2.  Tomas Grejtak and Zack Santagate won for MSU at No. 3 over Alvaro Riveros and Dylan Bernatzky 8-6.

Davidson came through to lead the Mustangs in singles, winning at No. 3 over Altimeres 6-1, 6-4, with Grejtak taking the No. 6 spot against Jason Harris 7-5, 6-3.

The Mustangs and Bearcats had three singles points go three sets, with the Mustangs deciding the match on Kacper Boborykin's 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 4 against Riveros.

"Kacper did a fantastic job today," Linn added.  "He turned his match around, down a set and a break to flip his match, and then dominated in the third to win it."

However, Northwest claimed the top two singles points, with No. 38 DeVilchez beating No. 39 Luke Joyce 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, and Bugiga downing Meeks 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-3.  The loss snapped Meeks' win streak at nine.

The win closed the Mustangs four-match home stand.  MSU is idle until next Thursday when it meets Cameron in Lone Star Conference play at 10 a.m. at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex in Lawton.
