WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State women bounced back strong on Thursday, shutting out McMurry 9-0 in non-conference play at the MSU Tennis Center.
The No. 40 Mustangs (7-5) took about two-and-a half hours to down the War Hawks (4-9).
Senior
Sarita Adhikary was a star for the Mustangs, moving up to the No. 1 singles spot and easily beating Lauren Renner 6-3, 6-1. She also teamed with
Lauren Pineda at No. 2 doubles and rolled over Jessica Bentley and Sydney Gonzales 8-1. Pineda added a win at No. 5 singles over Brandy Curry 6-1, 6-1.
"I'm very happy the way Sarita stepped up," said MSU coach
Scott Linn. "All around, great team effort and I know the women are very excited about getting back on the winning trail."
Taylor Coffman moved into the No. 2 singles spot for MSU and rolled McMurry's Sydney Gonzales 6-1, 6-2, and
Fatima Clementino moved up to No. 6 to beat Miranda Townson 6-3, 6-1. The duo paired at No. 3 doubles for an 8-2 win over Townson and Salitza Abrantes.
Madeline Schorlemmer and
Kayla Casey, MSU's new No. 1 doubles team, shutout McM's Renner and Curry 8-0. Casey also won at No. 3 singles over Abrantes 6-0, 6-3, while Schorlemmer was a winner at No. 5 over Bentley 6-2, 6-1.
The Mustangs continue their four-match home stand on Saturday with a pair of matches. The MSU women face Texas-Tyler at 8 a.m., then join with the MSU men to face Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m.
