Mustangs win streak snapped, fall to Oklahoma Christian 6-3

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 40 Midwestern State had its three-match winning streak snapped as Oklahoma Christian handed the Mustangs a 6-3 loss on Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.

Midwestern (4-2) lost a pair of doubles matches in tiebreakers to the Eagles (5-1) that help spell the difference in the match.

"We let one get away," said MSU Coach Scott Linn.  "But we are coming along and we are getting better."

All three of three of the Mustangs points came at the bottom of the lineup, as Fatima Clementino and KynZee Watson won at No. 3 doubles over Angie Torres and Rebecca Aguilar 8-2.  In singles, Kendra Casey won at No. 5 over Torres 6-3, 6-1 and Lauren Pineda downed Aguilar 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

The heart break came in doubles as Taylor Coffman and Sarita Adhikary were tripped up by Barbora Bozkova and Gisela Castany 8-3 in the tiebreak to lose 9-8 at No. 1.  Madeline Schorlemmer and Pineda also lost 9-8 at No. 2 to Maryfer Abreu Roman and Gabriela Carrilo with an 8-5 tiebreak.

OC claimed the top four singles points, but MSU's Adhikary battled tough at No. 2.

Adhikary came back from being down a set and extended the match but fell to Castany 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

"I was really pleased with the way Sarita played to come back in the match," Linn said.  "She per herself in a position to win."

Coffman lost to No. 20 Bozkova 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while Kayla Casey dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 3 and Schorlemmer fell to Carrilo 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4.

The Mustangs ended their season-opening six-game homestand with the loss and won't play again until March 11 when they start their Spring Break trip to Florida with a match against Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach.
