Midwestern women take down No. 7 Embry-Riddle 7-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Midwestern State Mustangs stunned Embry-Riddle (Fla.), the seventh ranked team in NAIA, 7-2 to start a spring break swing through Florida.
 
MSU (5-2) is ranked 40th among NCAA Division II institutions by the ITA.  ERAU (5-6) dropped it's fifth match of the season to Division II competition.
 
The Mustangs swept all but the top two singles points.
 
Taylor Coffman and Sarita Adhikary claimed the point in No. 1 singles for MSU over the NAIA's No. 4 team of Kristina Marova and Hui-l Huang 9-7.
 
However, Huang, ranked No. 7 in NAIA singles, beat Coffman at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2, and Marova, 17th in the NAIA, downed Adhikary at No. 2 singles 6-3, 7-5.
 
It was all MSU the rest of the way.
 
Kayla Casey and Madeline Schorlemmer handed ERAU's Paola Montero and Giovanna Tomiotto an 8-2 decision at No. 2, with Lauren Pineda and Fatima Clementino beating Ana Gonzalez-Hoy and Meena Bennett 9-8 (7-3) at No. 3.
 
In singles, Kayla Casey won at No. 3 over Montero 6-2, 6-3, as Schorlemmer took out Tomiotto 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.
 
Pineda handed Gonzalez-Hoy at 6-4, 6-1 defeat at No. 5, and Kendra Casey defeated Bennett 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
 
The Mustangs continue their Florida swing on Tuesday at Florida Tech.
