MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Midwestern State Mustangs got back on the winning track Tuesday with a 5-2 win over Florida Tech at the Fee Avenue Tennis Complex.
The No. 31 Mustangs (6-3) had the match in hand despite having two points suspended due to darkness against the Panthers (6-5).
MSU grabbed the 2-1 lead through doubles as the No. 1 team of
Luke Joyce and
Colby Meeks downed Nicolas Clerc and Patrick Hernandez 8-6, while the No. 2 squad of
Franko Siljeg and
Kyle Davidson won over Beau Fieldsend and Matic Leskovar 8-3.
The Panthers took the No. 3 doubles point as FIT's Riley Lorenz and Barry Dylewski edged
Kacper Boborykin and
Tomas Grejtak 9-7.
The Mustangs ran the table at the bottom of the lineup in singles for the win.
Siljeg shutout Dylewski at No. 4 6-0, 6-0, with Boborykin taking Zach Eichholz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and
Austin Crawford beating Jimmy Nguyen 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
FIT's Leskovar beat Davidson 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 10-4 for the point at No. 2 before it became too dark to continue.
MSU's Joyce was leading Clerc 0-6, 6-4, 4-3 at No. 1 when play was halted, and Meeks at No. 3 was ahead of Hernandez 4-6, 6-4, 3-2 when the match was stopped.
The Mustangs continue their Florida swing on Wednesday taking on sixth ranked Rollins in Winter Park.
