Mustangs men fall at NAIA No. 1 Embry-Riddle 7-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 31 Midwestern State ran into a buzzsaw as Embry-Riddle, the top-ranked team in NAIA, stopped the Mustangs 7-2 to open a four-match Florida spring break trip.

MSU (5-3) claimed two of the three doubles points, but ERAU (10-2) claimed the other doubles point and swept the singles.

The Mustangs scored in the top two positions in doubles, with Luke Joyce and Colby Meeks beat Chris Freeman and J.R. Leonik 8-6 at No. 1, followed by Kyle Davidson and Franko Siljeg winning 9-8 over Deni Zmak and Anthony Grasso at No. 2.

ERAU's Simon Felix and Kevin Chaouat took a 9-7 decision at No. 3 over Kacper Boborykin and Tomas Grejtak.

Then in singles it was all Eagles, with Zmak handing Joyce a 6-1, 6-1 loss at No. 1, followed by Freeman – ranked fifth in NAIA – beating Kyle Davidson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.

Meeks extended Grasso long in three sets, but fell to the Eagle 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, while Miguel Lopez-Gomez downed Boborykin 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.

Two other nationally-ranked Eagles downed Mustangs.  No. 13 Felix defeated Siljeg 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 4.  And No. 31 David Spennare won a three-setter over Austin Crawford 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
