KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Christina Roosmalen's two-run homer keyed an early Midwestern State barrage as the Mustangs rolled to a 9-1 run-rule win over Texas A&M International Saturday morning in the Javelina Softball Classic at Hubert Field.
The Mustangs posted four runs in the first, two runs in the second and three more in the third to improve to 5-2 on the season. MSU closes opening day play at the classic at 2 p.m. against St. Edward's (Texas).
The top of the order put MSU in motion in the first as

Elena Bennett reached on a bunt single before Kelley Schaefer delivered a two-run single to left field to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead. Roosmalen doubled the lead with her first home run of the season over the left field fence.
Jerrick and Bennett also ignited the Mustangs' rally in the second with back-to-back one-out singles then came around to score on
Courtney Bingham's two-run triple to the left-field gap to push the advantage to 6-0.
Jerrick keyed MSU's three-run third with a two-run double to the left-field gap to cap the Mustangs scoring.
Katherine Batey improved to 3-1 allowing an unearned run on four hits in five innings while striking out two and walking two.
Jerrick and Bennett paced the Mustangs' 11-hit attack with three safeties apiece.
