Mustangs set to host Holiday Inn at the Falls Invitational

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State plays host to the four-team, 13-game Holiday Inn at the Falls Invitational this weekend at Mustangs Park.
 
The tournament features five games on Friday, six games on Saturday and two more on Sunday featuring the Mustangs, Arkansas Tech, East Central (Okla.) and Texas A&M International.

STREAK: The Mustangs have won the last two games and four of the last five.

WHO'S HOT? Catcher Kim Jerrick leads the Lone Star Conference in numerous categories. The junior Belle Plaine, Kan. boasts a 16-game hitting streak dating back to last season and has reached base in her last 28 contests. Jerrick boasts a .606 average with five doubles, four homers and 15 RBIs. Senior first baseman Christina Roosmalen (.433, 2 doubles, 2 homers) garnered LSC Hitter of the Week honors after collecting multiple hits in all four games of the Javelina Softball Classic with two homers and five RBIs. Senior center field Elena Bennett is hitting .567 with an LSC-best 11 stolen bases while sophomore third baseman Kelley Schaefer, who has two hits in seven games already this season, bats .484 with three doubles and 10 RBIs. Midwestern leads the LSC with a .381 team batting average.

IN THE CIRCLE... Freshman Laci Belovsky is 4-2 with a 2.31 ERA in seven appearances this season. She weaved 8 1/3 shutout frames Sunday against St. Edward's and Texas A&M International. Freshman Kat Batey is 3-1 in five starts with a 3.82 ERA including a shutout of Western New Mexico.
 
ARKANSAS TECH
Record: 1-3 | Roster | Statistics

STREAK: Arkansas Tech dropped its final three games at the Central Region Shootout in Durant last weekend after claiming a 7-5 win over Northeastern State in its season opener.

WHO'S HOT? Sophomore Shanna Davidson went 4-for-9 (.444) with a double, a homer and two RBIs to lead a Golden Sun attack which boasts a .257 team batting average. Senior Amy Kilpatrick and sophomore Siarra Gomez account for ATU's other long balls.

IN THE CIRCLE... Victoria Huie made two starts in the circle for the Golden Suns last weekend in Durant. The sophomore from Pottsville, Ark. allows 13 runs - nine earned - on 15 hits in 14 1/3 while posting 10 strikeouts with a 4.40 ERA and two complete games. Sophomore Whitney Robinson is 0-1 with a 3.23 ERA in a complete game while Davidson is 0-0 with a 7.50 ERA in one start.
 
EAST CENTRAL

STREAK: The Tigers ride a six-game winning streak into the MSU/Holiday Inn at the Falls Invitational.

WHO'S HOT? Great American Conference Player of the Week Ali Manship leads East Central with a .517 batting average with five homers and 11 RBIs. The senior from Harrah, Okla. hit .600 (9-of-15) with five homers and 9 RBIs last weekend in the Tarleton State Invitational. Manship leads a group of five ECU batters boasting a .400 average or better including freshman Leah Tigert (.545), sophomore Lauren Bancroft (.471, 2 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI), senior Shelby Simmons (.438, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 7 RBI) and sophomore Lacey Williams (.429, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI). Junior catcher Gina Mengwasser also packs a punch for the Tigers with five homers and team-high 14 RBIs. East Central boasts a .352 team batting average and has walloped 14 homers in nine games.

IN THE CIRCLE... Manship is perfect with a 5-0 mark and a 2.80 ERA as four different pitchers have started games for ECU including sophomore Briana Nunley (1-0, 3.50 ERA), freshman Lacey Paulk (1-1, 3.77 ERA) and sophomore Amanda Madden (0-1, 5.25 ERA).
 
EASTERN NEW MEXICO
Record: 2-9 | Roster | Statistics

STREAK: The Zias snapped a nine-game skid by sweeping a twin bill against University of the Southwest Wednesday in Portales.

WHO'S HOT? Freshman Kyra Sirag leads ENMU at the dish with a .375 average with a double, two triples, a homer and nine RBIs while sophomore Savannah Chavez is hitting .364 . Sophomore Katie Ramsay is the Zias' top run producer hitting .273 with five doubles and 11 RBIs. Eastern New Mexico is hitting .289 as a team.

IN THE CIRCLE... Ramsay has made four starts for ENMU in the circle going 0-4 with a 7.83 ERA including a complete game. Sophomore Vanessa Ramirez boasts a shutout in her lone start of the season and is 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA. Sophomore Amy Smith owns the Zias other win posting a 1-2 mark with a 5.04 ERA. Sophomore Alberta Medina is 0-3 with an 11.12 ERA.
 
TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL
Record: 6-6 | Roster | Statistics

STREAK: Texas A&M International swept a doubleheader with Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday in Laredo. All six of the Dustdevils' victories have come against Lone Star Conference competition including four against TAMUK and one each against Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico.

WHO'S HOT? Rochelle Nash is swinging a hot stick for the Dustdevils. The junior from San Antonio boasts a .436 average with four doubles, two homers and three RBIs. Sophomore Mariena  Gallardo is hitting .368 with two doubles and eight RBIs while Junior Kristen LeBuhn is TAMIU's top run producer hitting .243 with two doubles, two homers and 11 RBIs. The Dustdevils are hitting .283 as a team.

IN THE CIRCLE... Sophomore Sarah Johnson tops TAMIU in the circle with a 1-1 mark and a 4.96 ERA in five appearances and three starts. junior Kyndall Reeves is 2-2 with a 5.32 ERA while Gallardo (2-0, 8.08 ERA) and junior Salina Mitchell (1-3, 8.48 ERA) have also made starts for the Dustdevils.
