WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior forward
Eddie D'Haiti scored a point a minute in leading 20th-ranked Midwestern State to a 73-65 win over Science & Arts (Okla.) Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs snapped a two-game slide to improve to 6-2 on the season while winning its 48th consecutive over a non-NCAA Division I/II opponent.
MSU enjoys a two-week finals break before returning to action against Ouachita Baptist on Dec. 17 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
D'Haiti enjoyed his second consecutive solid performance under the dome. The 6-9 senior from Orlando, who connected on each of his six shots to finish with 12 points in MSU's home opening win over Oklahoma City, finished with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds.
Midwestern appeared to put the game away with a 26-3 run over the final 11 minutes of the opening half to build a 42-20 lead at the break as the Mustangs didn't commit a single foul in the opening half.
But the Drovers outscored MSU 31-11 over the opening 11 minutes of the second half to pull within 53-51 after Shavon Scott hit a pair of free throws with 9:05 to play.
MSU put the game away for good with a solid closing surge pushing the lead back to 14 points with under two minutes to play.
Senior guard
Monzaigo Williams chipped his eighth consecutive double-figure performance with 15 points, five assists, four rebounds and five steals while senior forward
Derek Kaster added 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting including a 3-pointer.
Junior forward
Tavarion Nix dropped a season-high 10 points while pulling eight rebounds in 20 minutes off of the bench, while junior
Xavier Blackburn had eight points and eight rebounds. Senior guard
DeJuan Plummer also had seven points, five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes as a reserve.
The Mustangs enjoyed a 49-28 edge on the glass.
Donnie Brown and Scott had 16 points to lead Science & Arts (Okla.). The NAIA Drovers counted the game as an exhibition contest.
