Midwestern State freshman Sarah Garfield put down 10 kills and added five blocks to lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 win over Cameron Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Garfield, Blount, Villalba key rout of Cameron

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State spread the attack to blitz Cameron 25-12, 25-27, 25-9, 25-22 Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs have won two straight and three of the last four to improve to 15-11 overall and to 6-9 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Aggies drop to 7-21 and 0-15.
 
MSU close the regular with three matches next week as the Mustangs hit the road to face Dallas Baptist on Tuesday before returning to the dome to play Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday at 7 p.m. for Senior Day. The finale is set for Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma.
 
Senior setter Marija Javanovic recorded 38 assists while directing the Mustangs' attack to a blistering .252 team kill rate as seniors Beatriz Villalba and Michelle Blount and freshman Sarah Garfield recorded 10 kills each.
 
MSU came out firing committing just three errors while putting down 11 kills to coast to a 25-12 opening set victory, but the Aggies recovered from a four-point deficit to claim its only stanza by a 27-25 to knot the match at 1-1.
 
The Mustangs finished strong hitting .333 of the final two frames to salt away the victory.
 
Garfield led MSU's effort at the net getting her hands on five of the Mustangs' 10 total team blocks while Caitlin Wallace notched four of her own to go along with eight kills. Jovanovic and Blount added three blocks apiece.
 
Redshirt freshman Madelyn Johnson led back row efforts with 16 digs while sophomore Nicole Marzik added 12 digs as the Mustangs frustrated CU into 27 errors and a .099 team attack percentage.
 
Grace Newkirk led the Aggies with 12 kills, while Erin Hardy tallied 20 digs to pace the defense.
