SCOUTING THE BUFFS
West Texas A&M didn't have a single win from Sept. 29 until the Lady Buffs scored a pair of wins in the final week of the season against Texas A&M-Commerce (3-1) and Texas Woman's (2-1) to secure the fourth and final berth in the LSC Postseason Tournament. In fact, WT had a scant two goals in the seven matches which included a pair of scoreless ties against A&M-Commerce and Eastern New Mexico. Now, the Lady Buffs have six wins in three wins including a 1-0 upset of top-seeded Angelo State on Friday. Junior midfielder Jessie Thomas has accounted for nearly half of WT's 13 goals this season with six goals while senior defender Berklee Watson, sophomore midfielder Emily Krenek and sophomore midfielder Dominique Premac have two goals each. Senior goalkeeper Yvette Bedoy spearheads a top-notch defensive unit allowing a 0.89 goals against average with an .849 save percentage while posting eight clean sheets this season. West Texas A&M scores 0.68 goals per game and allows 0.95.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and West Texas A&M meet for the 33rd time on the pitch Sunday afternoon at the ASU Soccer Field. The Mustangs have won four of the last five meetings between the teams to take a slight 16-15-1 edge in the series. The teams have split its 10 meetings in LSC Postseason Tournament play with MSU claiming two the program three meeting in LSC title games. Midwestern on in 1996 (2-1) and 1998 (2-0) while the Lady Buffs came away with a 1-0 win in 1997.

MUSTANGS AGAINST THE LADY BUFFS IN LSC TOURNAMENT PLAY
This is the 11th meeting between the programs with the Mustangs and Lady Buffs accounting for five wins each. The teams met in three consecutive title matches in the late-90s with MSU claiming titles in 1996 and 1998 while the Lady Buffs won in 1997. This will be the third consecutive year MSU and WT meet in the LSC postseason as the Mustangs won 2-1 in the 2011 semifinals and the Lady Buffs claimed a victory in last year's semifinal round.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT
The top four teams qualified for the Lone Star Conference Tournament which is a straight four-team single elimination format with the winner earning automatic qualification into the NCAA Division II playoff field. Midwestern State and Angelo State tied for the LSC championship totaling 22 points with matching 7-2-1 marks in conference play, but the Rambelles earned hosting rights by taking the second tiebreaker -- goal differential during league play. ASU finished with a +7 just one better than MSU at +6. Texas A&M-Commerce claimed the No. 3 seed with 16 points at 5-4-1 while West Texas A&M took the No. 4 spot with 11 points at 3-5-2. Texas Woman's (2-7-1, 7 points) and Eastern New Mexico (1-5-4, 7 points) failed to make the tournament field.

FRIDAY IN SAN ANGELO
Midwestern State played Texas A&M-Commerce to a scoreless draw before advancing 3-1 in penalty kicks. West Texas A&M used a Dominique Premac goal in the 20th minute to eliminate top-seed Angelo State 1-0.

MSU IN THE LSC TOURNAMENT
Midwestern State makes its 18th appearance in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. The Mustangs own a 16-14-2 (.531) overall record which includes marks of 6-1-1 in the quarterfinals, 7-9-1 in the semifinals and 3-4 in the finals. MSU rolled to championships in 1996, 1998 and 2011 while also advancing to the final round in 1997, 1999, 2005, 2010 and 2013.

Kallie Essary made three stops in regulation to notch a school single season record with her ninth shutout of the season, but it was one-on-one stops of Jade Bell and Savannah Henderson in penalty kicks which allowed MSU to advance past Texas A&M-Commerce 3-1 on PKs. Ashley Cottrell highlighted a group of five Mustangs to earn first-team All-Lone Star Conference laurels as announced on Friday. Essary garnered goalkeeper of the year while Cottrell was named the league top offensive performer for the 2013 season. Joining the duo on the first team were senior defender

MUSTANGS IN SOUTH CENTRAL REGION RANKINGS
Midwestern State leaped ahead four spots to No. 3 in the latest South Central Region Rankings released Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee. The Mustangs trail Colorado Mines and Fort Lewis (Colo.) at the top two positions while No. 4 St. Edward's (Texas), No. 5 Angelo State (Texas), No. 6 Metro State (Colo.), No. 7 New Mexico Highlands, No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 9 Dallas Baptist (Texas) and No. 10 Regis (Colo.) fill out the rankings. The top six teams advance to the postseason play beginning the weekend of Nov. 15-17 on campus sites. The playoff field will be announced via live Web stream on NCAA.com Monday night at 6 p.m.
