GAME DAY | No. 6 Mustangs to battle USAO, OKC under dome

TIPOFF
Midwestern State battles Science & Arts (Okla.) in its home opener Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum before taking on NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma City on Monday. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.

SCOUTING THE DROVERS
Science & Arts (Okla.) has dropped four of its first five games from the start of the season which includes setbacks to three Division II squads in Northwestern Oklahoma, Central Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Drovers also suffered to NAIA No. 2-ranked LSU-Shreveport with their lone win coming by a 70-56 count over Langston (Okla.). Senior guard Tyler Reynolds leads USAO scoring 15 points a game to go along with 4.4 rebounds, while senior guard Kennis White adds 11.2 points and 5.1 rebounds a contest. Senior guard Shavon Scott pitches in 10.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. USAO scores 76.8 points a game and allows 79.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Science & Arts (Okla.) meet for the 20th time on the court Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs own a 12-7 edge in the series which dates back to the 1976-77 season. MSU has won the last two meetings - both under the dome - with the Drovers' last win coming by a 97-89 count on Nov. 29, 1995 in Chickasha.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. USAO
Michael Loyd connected on four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points to lead Midwestern State to an 89-71 win over Science & Arts (Okla.) on Nov. 14, 2011 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Anthony Harris added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Matt Gallagher notched a career high with 13 points off of the bench. JaMichael Rivers added 13 points with eight rebounds while featuring highlight dunk midway through the second half. DeJuan Plummer also scored 10 points off of the bench. Kyle Hunt booked 15 points to pace the Drovers.

SCOUTING THE STARS
Oklahoma City suffered its first loss of the season its last time out taking a 93-78 defeat on Nov. 14 against Central Oklahoma. The Stars opened the campaign with wins over Champion Baptist (Ark.) (88-46) and Langston (Okla.) (73-70). This will be OKC's first regular season road contest not including exhibition losses at Missouri (73-48) and North Texas (78-70). Senior guard Terry Johnson paces the Stars averaging 17.3 points a game to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. Senior forward Kaleb Smith (10.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and senior center Terrence Walker (10.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg) give OKC a trio of players averaging in double figures. The Stars score 79.7 points per game and allow 69.7.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Oklahoma City meet for the 19th time on the court Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Stars own a one-sided 17-1 all-time edge in the series which dates back to the 1946-47 season. MSU's lone victory came by an 94-83 score on Feb. 24, 1994 in Wichita Falls with Jason Paty (22 points, 7 assists) and Charlie Sager (21 points) leading the Indians to victory. This will be the seventh meeting between the programs at Ligon Coliseum.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. OKLAHOMA CITY
Oklahoma City's Walsh Jordan knocked down eight 3-pointers to lead the Chiefs to an 89-87 win over Midwestern State on Jan.17, 1995 at Abe Lemons Court in Oklahoma City. Jordan finished with a game-high 28 points, while Corey Jenkins notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists. MSU's Jerry Perry led a pack of four Indians in double figures with 18 points which also included Brian Hightower (17 points), Roderick Hay (16 points) and Kerry Bragg (13 points).
 
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is off to a 4-0 start for the 16th time in school history and for the third time in the last five years.  The Mustangs are 54-13 all time in home lid lifters and have won 17 of their last 18 openers under the dome with the lone loss coming to Dallas Baptist at the start of the 2008-09 season. Senior point man Monzaigo Williams leads the Mustangs' attack scoring 20.3 points a game to go along with 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game. Williams shoots 44 percent from the field and is 13-of-26 from the 3-point arc. Fellow senior guard DeJuan Plummer averages 16.3 points in 27.8 minutes off of the bench while shooting a cool 51.1 percent from the field. Junior swingman Xavier Blackburn adds 8.8 points a contests in a reserve role. Senior guard Cam Adderley (8.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg), senior forward Derek Kaster (8.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg), senior forward Eddie D'Haiti (7.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and junior guard Derrell Gibbs (4.0 ppg) round out the starting unit.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Senior guards Monzaigo Williams and DeJuan Plummer dropped in 16 points each to lead Midwestern State to an 82-64 win over Missouri Western last Saturday in the finale of the Hillyard Classic in St. Joseph, Mo. Senior guard Cam Adderley ignited a 9-0 run late in the first half with a 3-pointer and a put-back layup as the Mustangs built a 44-33 lead at the break. MSU pushed the advantage to 21 when Williams buried a trey with 4:32 to go for a 78-57 lead. Senior forwards Eddie D'Haiti and Derek Kaster had 11 points and eight rebounds each for the Mustangs.
 
MSU UNDER NELSON HAGGERTY
Nelson Haggerty enters his third year as head coach of the Mustangs. He boasts a 55-13 mark (.809) over the two seasons leading MSU to a pair of Lone Star Conference titles. The Mustangs advanced the Elite Eight in 2012 before falling to Metro State in the South Central Region finals last season. Haggerty served the previous two seasons as the top assistant at Midwestern as the Mustangs rolled to the Elite Eight in each of those campaigns.
 
MSU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Midwestern State jumped ahead seven spots to No. 6 in this week's NABC Division II Poll. The No. 6 national ranking is also the highest December ranking since the 1998-99 squad reached No. 5 in the Dec. 21 poll after rolling to a 10-0 start.
 
THREE...DOT...THOUGHTS...
Midwestern is 4-0 for the 16th time since becoming a 4-year institution in 1946-47 and for the since opening the 2011-12 campaign with 13 consecutive victories... MSU improved to 55-13 (.809) under the direction of Nelson Haggerty... The Mustangs have won seven of the eight halves they have played this season... Senior guard Monzaigo Williams has scored in double figures in each of his four outings this season ranking third in the LSC at 20.3 points per game... Williams has connected on a 3-pointer in each game including a career-best outburst of six treys on his way to a 31-point effort Friday against Northwest Missouri State... Senior forward Eddie D'Haiti set season highs with 11 points and eight rebounds in Saturday's win at Missouri Western... Senior guard DeJuan Plummer has come off of the bench to score 16.3 points per game and ranks fifth in the LSC shooting 51.1 percent from the field... Junior forward Tavarion Nix scored a season-high six points and grabbed four rebounds Saturday at Missouri Western after snaring a campaign best six board against Northwest Missouri State... Senior forward Derek Kaster booked a season-high 15 points with four rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal in MSU's 78-71 win over Northwestern Missouri State, then had 11 points and eight rebounds Saturday at Missouri Western... Senior guard Cam Adderley came out of an early season shooting funk to knock down 6-of-11 shots (54.5 percent) last weekend at the Hillyard Classic... Adderley has knocked down at least one 3-pointer in each of MSU's four games this season...
