ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State returns to the road for the first of two games, but with a week off between contests when the Mustangs face Texas Woman's.

The Mustangs have won four straight, but by suffering consecutive losses after attaining a No. 25 ranking in the Dec. 18 WBCA's USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll, MSU has dropped out of receiving votes in the poll.

The Mustangs are paced by the powerful duo of junior Kirsti Degelia and sophomore Andrea Carter.

Degelia, the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after chalking up a career-high 27 points against Tarleton State, leads the Mustangs offensively. The honorable mention All-Lone Star Conference performer a season ago is a junior from Denton, Texas/Krum who leads the LSC in scoring with 16.6 points a game (69th in Division II), and averages 3.1 assists a contest (sixth in the LSC) while grabbing 5.1 rebounds a game (20th in the LSC).

Carter has won the LSC Defensive Player of the Week award three times to go with the LSC Offensive Player of the Week award she has also collected earlier this season.  She has posted seven double-doubles in 14 games this season.  The sophomore from Angleton is second on the team and ninth in the LSC with a 12.1 scoring average.  She leads the squad, is second in the LSC and 16th nationally with 10.5 rebounds and is second in the conference with 2.5 steals a contest (76th in Division II).

Sophomore Shatoia Gober of Waco, Texas/Midway contributes 9.6 points a contest to go with her 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals an outing.  She is also shooting 48.2 percent from the floor (55-of-114).

Sophomore Diana Jones of Hewitt, Texas/Midway is averaging 8.1 points a game, adds 3.6 assists an outing, second in the LSC.  She has nailed 15-of-41 3-point attempts (.366) to go with her 1.8 steals a contest (sixth in the LSC).

MSU is averaging 70.7 points with 42.1 rebounds a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 61.9 points a contest.

ABOUT THE PIONEERS

Texas Woman's has split the four games it's played since the start of 2013, including last Saturday's 61-39 romp at Angelo State.

The Pioneers of coach Beth Jillson are 5-9 overall, 3-5 in the LSC.

TWU is paced by sophomore guard Toree Mason of Shreveport, La./Byrd leads the squad with 9.9 points a game (20th in the LSC) to go with her 3.7 rebounds a game as she is connecting on 1.2 3-point field goals a game .

Sophomore forward Ria Pateraki of Athens, Greece via Lamar University adds 9.5 points (24th in the LSC) and leads the team with 7.0 rebounds (eighth in the LSC).

Junior forward Tabbatha Thurmond of The Colony, Texas averages 8.4 points with 6.0 rebounds.

The Pioneers average 55.1 points a game (9th in the LSC), while allowing 61.1.
