Shelbi Stewart accounted for a kill and two blocks as Midwestern State closed out Franklin Pierce (N.H.) on the strength of a 5-0 run to claim a 25-21, 26-24, 25-23 win Friday night in UCCS Invitational play at the Gallogly Events Center.
But it was just a continuation of success for the outside hitter from Pflugerville who has posted double-figure kill in each of her last three matches.
Most importantly, her match-high 14 kills allowed the Mustangs to halt a three-match skid with an impressive three-set sweep.
Midwestern closes out tourney play Saturday against No. 12 Wayne State (Neb.) at 12:30 p.m. before taking on host Colorado-Colorado Springs at 8.
Stewart accounted for six kills in an opening set win while posted seven her season-high 10 digs to help the Mustangs get off on the right foot.
MSU rallied from a five-point deficit at 22-17 late in the second set powered by junior middle blocker
Caitlin Wallace, who put down five of her eight kills in the stanza. The Mustangs used back-to-back blocks earn a set point but Stewart would clinch the set with a kill two points later.
Midwestern then erased a 23-20 third set deficit to secure the victory.
