Midwestern State hits the road to face No. 5-ranked West Texas A&M Tuesday night before returning home to battle Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's University Friday and Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The No. 5-ranked Lady Buffs (12-1, 3-0) ride a 12-match winning streak into Tuesday's Lone Star Conference contest against Midwestern State. West Texas A&M has lost just one set since taking a 3-1 season opening loss to Adams State at the WTAMU Fieldhouse. The WT attack is paced by senior middle blocker Erin Dougherty who ranks third in the LSC with a .341 attack percentage while putting down 2.95 kills per set while junior outside hitter Halie Harton leads the team with 3.53 kills pet set. senior setter Lacy Hayes, the LSC Preseason Setter of the Year, ranks sixth in NCAA Division II with an 11.35 assists per set while piloting the WT attack to a .230 team hitting percentage at a 13.89 kills per set clip (14th in the nation). The Lady Buffs are the fourth best team in NCAA Division II at the net boasting 2.94 blocks per set paced by Dougherty's 1.44 blocks per set (6th nationally) and junior middle blocker Laura Iwuchukwu at 1.34 blocks per set (18th nationally). Senior libero Lauren Beville paces the back row averaging 5.06 digs per set. 
All-Time Series: West Texas A&M leads 23-0.

The Lions (10-3, 3-2) bounced back from consecutive losses to LSC leaders Texas Woman's and West Texas A&M with a sweep of Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon in Commerce. A&M-Commerce opened the season on an 8-1 run with its only other loss coming to Southeastern Oklahoma - a team it faces again on Tuesday night. The Lions are 9-1 away from their home floor at the A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse. A&M-C is paced by senior middle blocker Rachel Robertson who ranks 15th nationally in hitting percentage (.408), 16th in points per set (4.70) and 26th in kills per set (3.77). Sophomore middle blocker Breanne Snyder and junior outside hitter Kayla Bond add depth to the attack with 2.61 and 2.02 kills per set, respectively. Junior setter Jordan Neal ranks third in the LSC at 10.30 assists per set while piloting a Lions' attack averaging 12.89 kills per set with a .197 team hitting percentage. Robertson, Snyder and junior outside hitter Ciara Holmes pace the team at the net with 0.77 blocks per set while sophomore libero Michaela Spicer paces the back row with 4.68 digs per set.

The Pioneers (10-3, 4-1) have enjoyed a strong start to the 2012 campaign suffering losses to a pair of nationally ranked squads in No. 24 Grand Canyon (Ariz.) and No. 6 West Texas A&M as well as to a tough 9-3 Colorado Mesa squad. Senior opposite hitter Viktorija Jablonska leads the TWU attack with 3.58 kills per set (5th in the LSC) while hitting at a .287 clip. Junior middle blocker Chloe' Tate adds support with 2.71 kills per set while hitting an efficient .305 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Kayla Rivero pilots the Pioneer attack (.213 team hitting percentage) with 6.86 assists per set. Tate paces TWU at the net with 1.02 blocks per set while sophomore libero Morgan Wilson and junior middle blocker Marcela Alves lead the back row with 4.16 and 3.05 digs per set, respectively. 
All-Time Series: Texas Woman’s leads 20-15. 
    
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
  
Midwestern State (3-9, 1-2) snapped a five-match slide by claiming a five-set win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs hope to ride the momentum into a tough week facing three of the top five teams in the LSC. Buoyed by the return of junior outside hitter Beatriz Villalba, who put down 11 kills against UIW and TAMUK last weekend, the Mustangs delivered two of their better offensive performances of the season. Junior outside hitter/setter Courtney Haney delivered consecutive assist/dig double-doubles while posting a season-high 33 assists in Saturday's win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Junior middle blocker Caitlin Wallace led the attack with 2.56 kills per set while hitting an efficient .340 and recorded double-figure kills in consecutive matches for the first time this season. Sophomore libero Casey Fletcher notched 20 digs in consecutive matches for the first time this season while the Mustangs also came alive at the net Saturday against the Javelinas. Wallace and junior middle blocker Michelle Blount tallied six total blocks each to lead the team to a season-best 12.0 total team blocks. 
      

NOTEWORTHY
  • Midwestern State split a pair of Lone Star Conference matches at home last weekend falling to Incarnate Word 3-1 Thursday night before rallying for a five-set win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.
  • The win over the Javelinas snapped five-match slide for the Mustangs which was the longest losing streak since MSU dropped the final seven matches of the 2011 campaign.
  • The Mustangs snapped a 12-set losing streak by taking the first set 25-18 over Incarnate Word Thursday night. MSU last dropped 12 consecutive sets over the final four matches last season.
  • The Mustangs enjoyed just their second match with a .200 hitting percentage by hitting .237 Thursday against Incarnate Word. It was just the second .200 team hitting percentage performance of the season with the other coming in a 3-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma on Sep. 1 (.246).
  • The Mustangs logged a season-best 12 total teams blocks in Saturday's 3-2 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville led by junior middle blockers Michelle Blount and Caitlin Wallace who were each in on six blocks.
  • Junior setter/outside hitter Courtney Haney enjoyed a solid setting weekend averaging 6.33 assists per set out of the 6-2 system with an impressive .343 set percentage.
  • Haney enjoyed her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season with 24 assists and 12 digs against Incarnate Word before notching a season-high 33 assists to go along with 12 digs versus Texas A&M-Kingsville.
  • Sophomore setter Kristan Aduddell completed her second double-double of the season with 21 assists and a season-high 15 digs against Incarnate Word.
  • Junior outside hitter Beatriz Villalba returned from injury to notch 11 kills in each of MSU's matches against Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
  • Senior outside hitter Shelbi Stewart enjoyed a solid all-around weekend averaging 1.78 kills, 3.78 digs and 0.33 blocks per set while recording her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 23 digs to go along with three total blocks Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
  • Sophomore libero Casey Fletcher tallied 20 digs in consecutive matches for the first time this season to average 5.33 digs per set.
  • Junior middle blocker Caitlin Wallace hit .340 with a team-best 2.56 kills per set.
