Mustangs fall to NAIA No. 3 Oklahoma Christian 9-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Oklahoma Christian, the No. 3 team in NAIA, handed the 34th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs a 9-0 loss Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.

The Mustangs (7-10) faced nationally ranked opponents in all but two positions against the Eagles (11-3).

The Eagles, with four top 30 singles players and a fifth in the top 50, claimed all six singles points.

Luke Joyce led MSU at the top of the order at No. 1, falling to NAIA No. 2 Bruno Tiberti 6-3, 7-5.

The Mustangs also played close at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, as Mario Urban fell to NAIA No.  Martin Poberil 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 and Jarrod Liston lost 7-5, 6-3 to No. 27 Renardy Guelfy 7-5, 6-3.

"A great effort by Luke Joyce all day long," said MSU Coach Scott Linn.  "We got strong starts by Urban and Liston as well, but couldn't keep it going."

Colby Meeks lost at No. 3 to 20th ranked Jaime Canamares 6-3, 6-1, while Tomas Grejtak lost at No. 4 to 50th ranked Pier Pieracciani 6-2, 6-3.  Kacper Boborykin also lost at No. 6 to Julio Pulido 6-0, 6-3.

On the double side, Meeks and Urban gave the NAIA's 11th ranked doubles pair a scare before Pieracciani and Nicolas Auruccio won 8-6 at No. 2.  Liston and Grejtak fell to fifth ranked Tiberti and Poberil 8-2 at No. 1, with Joyce and Boborykin fell at No. 3 to Canamares and Guelfy 8-5.

MSU is in action again on Tuesday at the MSU Tennis Center, when the Mustangs face No. 22 Cameron in Lone Star Conference action.  The men hit the courts at 3 p.m., following the women's match at noon.
