Senior Rozike van Rensburg won at both No. 1 singles and doubles in leading 39th ranked Midwestern State to a 5-4 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith at the MSU Tennis Center.

No. 39 Mustangs claim 5-4 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Senior Day

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior Day for Midwestern State saw a strong contribution by the senior class as the Mustangs edged Arkansas-Fort Smith 5-4 in the final regular season match this year at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
The 39th-ranked Mustangs (8-12) stepped up with wins at the top of the lineup to dump the Lions (14-9).
 
Seniors Rozike van Rensburg and Lindsey Holcomb paved the way for the Mustangs, collecting three of the team's five points.
 
Playing together at No. 1 doubles, Holcomb/van Rensburg beat Monica Pieratt and Abby Whittemore 8-6.
 
Then in singles, van Rensburg claimed the No. 1 match over Pieratt 7-5, 6-1, as Holcomb won at No. 2 over Masa Podunavac 6-2, 6-0.
 
Senior Leah Roberts got her third straight doubles win with teammate Taylor Coffman with a 9-8 triumph over Podunavac and Whitney Hobson at No. 3.
 
"The seniors really led us today," said MSU Coach Scott Linn.  "Their experience carried us and gave put us in the position we needed to win this match.  I can't tell you how proud I am of them."
 
The Mustangs finished off the Lions at No. 6 singles as Laura Haney got her first collegiate victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hobson.
 
The Lions four points can on tough wins.
 
First Sarita Adhikary and Lindsey Buenger fell at No. 2 doubles to Amy Belanger and Stanka harvanova 8-5.
 
Then Adhikary dropped a three-setter to Whittemore at No. 3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
 
Coffman fell at No. 4 to Harvanova 6-4, 6-3, while Roberts lost her only singles match she's played in this year to Belanger 6-0, 6-7, 10-7.
 
The Mustangs are now set to open postseason play, as they'll be in action next weekend in the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Southlake.
