SOUTHLAKE, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs women's season came to an end on Friday, as the Mustangs lost 5-1 to Tarleton State in the first round of the 2012 Firestone Lone Star Conference Championships.
The 39th ranked Mustangs fell to 8-13 on the season. The 31st ranked TexAnns went to 12-7 on the season and advanced to Friday night's semifinal against LSC Champion and sixth ranked Abilene Christian.
Midwestern got its only point in doubles play, as the No. 3 team of
Leah Roberts and
Taylor Coffman blanked Silvia Nieva-Garcia and Kayla Deatherage 8-0.
MSU narrowly fell in extended play at the other doubles spots and that help grease the tracks for the TexAnns.
Rozike van Rensburg and
Lindsey Holcomb fell at No. 1 to Melanie Barnes and Karla Martinez 9-7, while
Sarita Adhikary and
Lindsey Buenger dropped a 9-8 decision to Makenzie Mitchell and Alicia Perez at No. 2.
Then in singles play, the TexAnns quickly claimed the top three positions to win the match.
Van Rensburg lost 6-3, 6-1 to Perez at No. 1, as Holcomb dropped the No. 2 point to Martinez 6-0, 6-1 and Adhikary lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to Barnes.
The rest of the matches went unfinished.
