WICHITA FALLS, Texas – It was a clean sweep for the 34th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs as they clobbered Arkansas-Fort Smith 8-0 to close the regular season at the MSU Tennis Center.
Midwestern (9-10) claimed all eight matches played and did not schedule a sixth position when a player was injured in doubles for the UAFS Lions.
MSU pounded out a sweep of all three doubles and never looked back.
Colby Meeks and
Mario Urban took the No. 1 position over Matheus Silva and Martin Tabler 8-4, as
Tomas Grejtak and
Jarrod Liston handled Seth Laster and Josh Helland 8-1 at No. 2.
Luke Joyce and Kacper Bobrykin won at No. 3 over Pedro Carvalho and Evan Daniel 8-5.
"The guys stepped up and played the way I knew we could all season," said MSU coach
Scott Linn. "I was pleased with the way we closed the match."
Joyce led the way in the singles play by shutting out Silva 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1.
Urban dashed off Carvalho 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, and Grejtak followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Helland at No. 3.
Meeks won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 over Tabler, while Liston played the closest point in the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Laster at No. 4.
"We've done what we needed to for the conference tournament," said Linn.
The Mustangs next match is in the Lone Star Conference Championships in Southlake next Friday and Saturday.
