Mustangs women down UT-Tyler, fall to Tyler JC

TYLER, Texas – Midwestern State visited East Texas on Saturday as the 35th ranked NCAA Division II squad split matches in the quick two matches in one day trip.
 
MSU (5-3) fell to the NJCAA's No. 1 team, Tyler Junior College 8-1 before coming back to beat NCAA Division III member Texas-Tyler 8-1.
 
The Mustangs will return to play next Saturday to start a swing into Florida starting with a neutral site match against William Carey in Hattisburg, Miss..

The Mustangs claimed one doubles point as the top ranked junior college team in the country handed MSU a sound defeat.
 
The Mustangs doubles team of Rozike van Rensburg and Kendra Casey, ranked 14th in Division II, beat Ariana Saldana and Mary Blacketer 8-6 for the lone point at No. 2 doubles.
 
Lindsey Holcomb and Sarita Adhikary lost to the NJCAA's No. 1 doubles team of Audrey Leitz and Carrie Cartwright 8-5, while Taylor Coffman and Lindsey Buenger fell to the 12th ranked squad of Nelo Phiri and Alejandra Enderica 8-2.
 
TJC swept the singles from the Mustangs.
 
Van Rensburg fell to Cartwright, the top-ranked singles player in junior college, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, while Adhikary dropped a point at No. 3 to Phiri who is ranked eighth 7-5, 6-4.  Holcomb fell to Leitz, ranked 17th at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-0.
 
MSU battled hard at the bottom of the lineup, taking the final three singles matches to three sets each, but dropped all three.
 
Casey lost to Enderica 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot, Coffman fell to Saldana 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, while Buenger slipped to Blacketer 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) at No. 6.
 
NO. 35 MIDWESTERN STATE 8, TEXAS-TYLER 1
 
The Mustangs bounced back in the final match of the day, taking the Patriots 8-1 as UT-Tyler managed to grab only one doubles point.
 
Lindsey Holcomb and Sarita Adhikary started the rout with an 8-6 win at No. 2 against Jessica Blundell and Jennifer Payne.
 
Taylor Coffman and Lindsey Buenger followed with a win at No. 3 against Ashley Albro and Morgan Wilkins 8-4.
 
The lone UTT point came at No. 1 doubles, with Rozike van Rensburg and Kendra Casey falling to Sydni Hermsdorf and Amy Friesenhahn 8-4.
 
The Mustangs swept the singles led by van Rensburg at No. 1.  She ripped Friesenhahn 6-1, 6-3, as Holcomb ripped Blundell 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
 
Adhikary downed Hermsdorf 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, with Coffman over Payne at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Casey won at No. 5 beating Brittany Trich 4-6, 6-2, 10-3, as Buenger downed Wilkins 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
