HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Midwestern State Mustangs a win in doubles and singles, but that would be all as the William Carey Crusaders handed the women a 7-2 loss Saturday.
Midwestern's 14th ranked doubles team of Rozike van Rensburg and
Kendra Casey won at No. 2 doubles against Carola Orna and Malin Collin 8-4.
Taylor Coffman won at No. 5 singles as well 7-5, 6-3 against Joyce Oliveira for MSU lone points.
The Mustangs (5-4) played tough throughout as the 35th team in NCAA Division II saw the Crusaders (5-4), the 10th ranked team in the NAIA, win its fifth straight match.
The Mustangs lost some down to the wire battles for point throughout the match.
Lindsey Holcomb and
Sarita Adhikary lost 9-8 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles to Maja Vuzem and Sarah-Maria Spruch, while
Taylor Coffman and
Lindsey Buenger fell at No. 3 doubles 8-6 to Petra Pesic and Oliveira.
In singles Buenger went the distance at No. 6 singles before losing to Collin 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

In other singles play, van Rensburg lost to Vuzem 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1, with Holcomb dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Orna at No. 2.
Adhikary lost at No. 3 to Pesic 7-5, 6-3, with Casey dropping a 6-0, 6-3 outcome to Spruch at No. 4.
The Mustangs continue their spring break trip in the Southeast on Monday against Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla.
