DENTON, Texas - Texas Woman's Tiffany Weise drove in four runs to key a pair of three-run innings to lead the Pioneers to a 6-2 win over Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference play here Friday night.

The Pioneers claimed the opening game of the three-game set to improve to 28-8 on the season and to 10-2 in league play, while the Mustangs fell to 14-19 and 4-9.

The series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Field.

Kelley Schaefer paced the Mustangs by going 2-for-3 at the plate while providing the Mustangs with their lone offensive punch in the sixth inning.

The freshman from Waco laced an RBI double to left field to plate
Courtney Bingham to break up TWU starter Larisa Garcia's shutout bid. Schaefer came around to score due to an errant throw on
Nicki Duff's steal of second base later in the inning.

Garcia improved to 10-5 on the season allowing an earned run on four hits in the complete game victory, but received ample help from the TWU top of the order.

Sophomore Bailey Vrazel and senior Addison Staley joined Weise with two hits each to account for six of TWU's seven hits. Vrazel added three stolen bases while Staley swiped two to set up Weise with excellent RBI chances.

Weise put the Pioneers up 2-0 with a two-run single in the third then highlighted the three-run fifth with a two-round double to the left-field gap in the fifth.

Freshman
Lindsi Glenn took the loss to fall to 12-10 on the season yielding six runs - all earned - on seven hits with four walks and one strikeout in six innings of work.
Brenna Hennan came on to pitch a scoreless seventh.

- Senior third baseman Mallory Mooney is closing in on a pair of milestones. The Mesquite native needs one home run to match Racheal Jackson (28 from 2004-06) for the all-time lead and needs to drive in four more runs to pass Kristen Stonecipher (172 from 2005-08) for the program's all-time lead in RBIs.
- Midwestern State has been successful on 27 of its last 28 stolen base attempts as a team dating back to Feb. 25. The Mustangs swiped four bases Friday against TWU including one each by Courtney Bingham, Kelley Schaefer, Nicki Duff and Megan Chartier.
- Junior outfielder Elena Bennett needs two hits to become just the fourth player in MSU program history to amass 200 career hits joining Kristen Stonecipher (270 from 2005-08), Jessica Rodriguez (215 from 2006-09) and teammate Mallory Mooney (213 from 2009-12).
- Freshman shortstop Kelley Schaefer collected her seventh multiple-hit game of the season.
