WINTER PARK, Fla. – The 30th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs fell at eighth ranked Rollins Wednesday as the Tars claimed an 8-1 win at the Tiedtke Tennis Courts.
MSU (5-6) picked up its only point in doubles play as Rollins (8-4) made a sweep of the singles.
Jarrod Liston and
Tomas Grejtak picked up the lone point at No. 2 doubles, beating Sebastian Hafner and Constantin Sturdza 8-4.
Grejtak also claimed the only set in singles play, falling at No. 6 to Ari Davis 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, while Liston lost at No. 5 to Jason Alabaster 6-3, 7-5.
"Liston and Grejtak executed well as a solid doubles squad," said MSU Coach
Scott Linn. "Both competed in singles play as well. Liston is much improved in both singles and doubles this year compared to last year."
The other two doubles teams fell by identical 8-3 scores to the Tars, as
Mario Urban and
Colby Meeks playing at No. 1 lost to Lucas Jovita and Jason Alabaster, while
Luke Joyce and Kacper Bobrykin at No. 3 fell to Jeff Morris and Davis.
In singles action, Joyce lost to the top-ranked player in the nation, as Jovita claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1. Urban lost to 11th ranked Morris 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
Meeks dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Malte Christesen at No. 3, as Boborykin fell at No. 4 to Sturdza 6-2, 6-2.
Midwestern concludes it's Southeastern U.S. swing on Saturday at West Florida.
