PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Midwestern State Mustangs ended their spring trip to the Southeast with a 7-2 loss at West Florida on Friday.
The No. 30 Mustangs (5-7) picked up a pair of singles points against the No. 7 Argos (9-1).
Mario Urban, playing at No. 3 for MSU, defeated Sean Gunnels 7-5, 7-6, while
Jarrod Liston picked up a win at No. 6, beating Domenico Sano 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.
UWF took all three doubles points to put MSU behind the eight-ball as Liston and
Tomas Grejtak lost at No. 1 to Bruno Savi and Kevin Ducros 8-4, Urban and
Colby Meeks lost at No. 2 to Andrey Pozhidaev and Leandro Ferreira 8-6, and at No. 3
Luke Joyce and
Kacper Boborykin fell to Sano and Michael Lue 8-6.
On the singles side, Joyce dropped the No. 1 point to Savi 6-1, 6-2, while Meeks fell at No. 2 to Pozhidaev 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 4 Boborykin lost to Lue 6-4, 6-3, and Grejtak fell at No. 5 to Elio Lattela 6-1, 6-2.
"I'm pleased with the strong finish as Urban and Liston were the last matches on the court," said MSU Coach
Scott Linn. "Our doubles teams competed better. We could have won at No. 2 with a better start and at No. 3 with a better finish."
The Mustangs return home to the MSU Tennis Center for their first home action in nearly a month as MSU hosts Northwest Missouri State on Monday at 3 p.m. and Washburn (Kan.) on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
