Mustangs men split matches to open season

The Midwestern State Mustangs opened the season with a split of matches this weekend in action in Central Texas.
 
MSU took apart Temple Junior College 9-0 on Friday in Temple, before meeting 20th ranked St. Edward's at San Marcos.  The Hilltoppers claimed a 7-2 victory over the men.
 
The Mustangs are in action again next weekend in San Antonio facing Laredo Community College on Friday and meeting Incarnate Word in a Lone Star Conference match on Saturday.
 
MIDWESTERN STATE 9, TEMPLE JC 0
 
The Mustangs took all nine points from the Leopards and almost swept every set in the 9-0 win.
 
Mario Urban led MSU at the No. 1 spot, beating Tom Greer-Smith in singles 6-3, 6-2 after he teamed with Colby Meeks at No. 1 doubles to down Greer-Smith and Robin Hochguertel 8-2.
 
Jarrod Liston and Tomas Grejtak beat Justin Delgado and Dimitar Komov 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Rory de Boer and Kacper Boborykin downed Andrew Fuelleman and Justin Petty 8-1 at No. 3.
 
The only set dropped was a No. 2 singles, where de Boer beat Hochguertel 6-2, 6-7, 10-5.
 
Bobrykin beat Komov 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, with Liston over Delgado 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.
 
Grejtak ripped Fuelleman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while Jay Henton completed the Mustangs sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Petty at No. 6..
 
NO. 20 ST. EDWARD'S 7, MIDWESTERN STATE 2
 
The Hilltoppers swept the doubles points, then claimed four of the six singles matches to take down Midwestern 7-2 in a tough regional match in San Marcos.
 
Tomas Grejtak beat Alexandre Bueno at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3 for one point, with Kacper Bobrykin getting a default win over Otavio Perim at No. 4 singles when Perim was injured in the third set and could not continue after the two split sets 6-4, 4-6.
 
The Mustangs forced three-set matches in three of the four remaining singles, but dropped them all after winning the first set.
 
Mario Urban lost at No. 1 to Edward Boone 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.  Colby Meeks fell at No. 2 to Eduardo Bencke 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 and Jay Henton was defeated at No. 6 by Ryan Wiggins 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
 
Rory de Boer also lost at No. 3 to Pedro Bronstrup 6-4, 6-3.
 
The No. 2 doubles point between MSU's Liston and Grejtak was the closest of the doubles, as SEU's Bonstrup and Perim won 8-6.
 
The other two doubles points were won by St. Ed's 8-4, with the No. 1 team of Urban and Meeks falling to Boone and Bencke, as the No. 3 team of de Boer and Boborykin lost to Bueno and Wiggins.
