WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 19th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs had little trouble in picking up their fourth victory of the season, downing Cowley County (Kan.) 7-2 at the MSU Tennis Center Saturday.
MSU (4-2) swept the doubles on the way to beating the fifth-ranked team in the NJCAA.
The Mustangs started the domination with the three doubles wins as the No. 1 team of Rozike van Rensburg and
Kendra Casey ripped Ariana Raga and Kristin Richardson 8-2, while the No. 2 squad of
Lindsey Holcomb and
Sarita Adhikary downed Mariah Vargas and Lexie Maytubby 8-6. MSU won at No. 3 doubles as well with
Taylor Coffman and Lindsey Buegener beating Zsofia Biro and Maria Hernandez 8-6.
In singles, van Rensburg fell to Biro, ranked 15th in the NJCAA, at the top spot 6-3, 7-6, and Coffman slipped to Vargas at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3.
MSU claimed the rest, led by Holcomb at No. 2 who clobbered Raga 6-2, 6-0, followed by Adhikary at No. 3 over Richardson 6-0, 6-0.
Casey won at No. 4 over Maytubby 6-0, 6-1, with Buenger winning at No. 6 against Hernandez 6-0, 6-1.
MSU hits the road again next Saturday for a pair of matches in Tyler. MSU takes on Tyler Junior College in the morning followed by a match against Texas-Tyler in the afternoon.
