Box Score

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Mallory Mooney, Kim Jerrick and Courtney Ford belted solo homers in the fifth inning to lift No. 20 Midwestern State to a 5-2 win over Texas A&M International late Friday night in the Texas A&M-Kingsville Invitational at Hubert Field.

It was MSU's third straight win as the Mustangs improved to 4-2 on the season.

Midwestern continues tournament play Saturday with games against Southern Nazarene (Okla.) and Southeastern Oklahoma at 1 and 3 p.m.

Freshman hurler Lindsi Glenn improved to 4-1 on the season allowing two runs - one earned - on four hits in a complete game victory. She notched two strikeouts and issued one walk.

Glenn as now pitched 31 of MSU's 37 innings this season.

Mooney, who led the Mustangs' 10-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with three RBIs, staked Glenn to an early 1-0 lead when she laced a run scoring double to the left-field gap to plate junior Courtney Bingham, who reached on a lead-off single to center field.

Mooney was once again the catalyst to allow MSU to break open a close game in the fifth when she drilled TAMIU starter Mariena Gallardo's 1-0 offering over the left-field fence for her first homer of the season.

The blast was the junior from Mesquite's 27th career homer to move into sole possession of second play on the program's all-time home run list. She needs one more to match Rachael Jackson, who blasted 28 homers from 2004-06.

Jerrick followed with her team leading third jack of the season before Ford stroked her second career homer to the right-field gap to push the MSU advantage to 4-1.

Gallardo took the loss for TAMIU allowing four runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

The Dustdevils broke Glenn's shutout bid with by playing two runs in the top of the sixth, but Mooney drove in junior Elena Bennett for an insurance run in the bottom of the frame.

Texas A&M International, who advanced to the NCAA Division II postseason in 2011, dipped to 3-3 on the season.
