GOODWELL, Okla. -- Midwestern State rolled to 4-0 for the first time since 2000-01 by rolling to a 78-59 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State Sunday afternoon at Oscar Williams Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs shot out to a 20-1 advantage and led by as many as 23 points as all 15 players on the travel squad hit the floor in the opening half.
Junior guard
Kirsti Degelia, who was the lone player to log more than 20 minutes of court time, connected on 6-of-9 shots to finish with a team-high 17 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds to lead a trio of Mustangs scoring in double figures.
Sophomore
Lisa Hampton drilled a pair of 3-pointers and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to finish with 12 points while sophomore forward
Andrea Carter notched 11 points and seven rebounds with four steals in 18 minutes of court time.
OPSU senior guard Whitley Coca connected on three treys to net 16 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to pull the Lady Aggies to as close as 17 points at 63-46 with 8:22 to play.
But the Mustangs extended the lead out to a game-high 27 points when Hampton knocked down her second triple of the game to cap a 14-4 MSU run for a 77-50 lead with 2:50 to play.
Sophomore guards
Shatoia Gober (7 points) and
Dianna Jones (7 points, 6 rebounds , 5 assists) delivered solid outings while fellow starter
Taylor Dowd had six points and two rebounds in 9 minutes.
Junior forward
Skyler Warrick had seven points and seven rebounds off of the bench, while sophomore forward
Shambreka Jones had two points, three rebounds, two steals and a block in 14 minutes during her MSU debut.
The Mustangs open Lone Star Conference play Thursday night at Incarnate Word. Tipoff from McDermott Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
Oklahoma Panhandle State of the Heartland Conference dropped to 2-5 on the season.
