COMMERCE, Texas -- Texas A&M-Commerce's Rachel Robertson blasted a match-high 13 kills as the Lions came away with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 win over Midwestern State Saturday night at the A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs (5-21, 3-13) return to action Friday against Eastern New Mexico at 5:30 p.m. before taking on West Texas A&M Saturday at 2 p.m.
MSU delivered a solid offensive performance in the opening set committing just three errors while putting down 11 kills paced
Shelbi Stewart and
Kasey Decker who had three kills each in the frame.
But it wasn't enough to match Robertson's opening salvo of eight kills as the Lions worked for 16 team kills and a .412 attack percentage to grab the early advantage.
The Mustangs struggled to a .094 team hitting percentage in the second second set and were unable to slow down the A&M-Commerce attack to fall down two sets to none.
Junior outside hitter
Brandi Flores gave Midwestern a spark by putting down four kills without a miscue in the third set, but it wasn't enough to extend the match.
Junior outside hitter
Courtney Haney and sophomore middle blocker
Kasey Decker paces the Mustangs' attack with six kills each while Haney added 10 digs and nine set assists for a solid all-around line.
Texas A&M-Commerce improved to 19-7 on the season and to 10-6 in LSC play.
