WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Caitlin Wallace and
Michelle Blount combined for 22 kills to lead Midwestern State to a dominating 25-15, 25-20, 25-18 win over Eastern New Mexico Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
But it was a strong defensive efforts which allowed the Mustangs to improve to 6-21 on the season and to 4-13 in Lone Star Conference play.
Blount, who finished with 10 kills, led the block party with total blocks to pace MSU to nine total team blocks. Wallace added three blocks of her own while
Shelbi Stewart,
Kasey Decker and
Beatriz Villalba had two blocks each.
The net play resulted in a .008 team attack percentage for Eastern New Mexico.
Wallace also paced the Mustangs' attack with 12 kills while committing three errors in 20 attacks to hit .450, while Blount boasted a .471 attack percentage.
Junior
Courtney Haney added five kills while completing a double-double with 18 set assists and 11 digs. Stewart and Decker pitched in with five kills each.
Sophomore libero
Casey Fletcher had 12 digs to pace back row efforts while sophomore setter
Kristan Aduddell narrowly missed a double-double with 19 set assists and nine digs.
Lindsey Barron put down nine kills to lead Eastern New Mexico which fell to 6-20 on the season and to 1-15 in league play.
Midwestern State plays host to West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
