#13 Mustangs rally past Angelo State, 35-28

WICHITA FALLS,  Texas -- No. 13 Midwestern State rallied for a 35-28 win over Angelo State in front of a Homecoming crowd of 7,743 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The win was the fifth straight for the Mustangs, who improved to 5-1 on the season and to 4-1 in league, but erased a second-half deficit for the second time in as many weeks.

Angelo State punter Joseph Pickett lined the ball off of one his personal protectors with 3:02 remaining in the fourth quarter to all MSU to regain a 35-28 lead on Keidrick Jackson's second rushing touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run.

The Rams took advantage of a pair of pass interference calls to tie the game at 21-21 when Blake Hamblin connected with C.J. Akins for a 2-yard score at the end of the third quarter.

Angelo State then benefited from three-straight interceptions with the last one falling in the hands of Rush Seaver before Hamblin found Dakarai Pecikonis on a 41-yard strike to give the Rams a 28-21 lead with 11:07 to play.

The Mustangs responded with an 8-play, 65-yard drive capped by a 10-yard TD run by senior quarterback Brandon Kelsey to tie the game at 28-28 preceding ASU's punting mishap.

Kelsey delivered his second-straight 100-yard rushing performance finishing with a game-high 153 yards on 20 carries, while Jackson rushed for 90 yards on 17 carries.

Hamblin passed for 183 yards and three touchdowns, while C.J. Akins led the Angelo State receiving corps with five catches for 90 yards and two scores.

The Rams fell to 3-4 on the season and to 2-2 in league play.
