WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Four different players tallied goals as No. 23-ranked Midwestern State rolled to a 4-1 win over NAIA Houston-Victoria Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Mustangs extended their most recent unbeaten streak to five matches while improving to 7-1-3 on the season.
Sophomore forward
Len Smith volleyed in his team-best seventh goal of the season to put MSU up 1-0 in the fourth minute following
Griff Stratford's header which caromed off of the post.
Houston-Victoria pushed through the equalizer when Hector Ramirez drove in a long cross from the left wing to Allan Bell, who got behind MSU's defense in the 15th minute.
The Mustangs put the match away with two more goals before the intermission.
Freshman
Ben Clarvis knocked in a ball redirected by Smith off of
Andrew Power's corner kick offer in the 23rd minute then junior
VcMor Eligwe worked a ball off of his back heel into the net on a nice cross from Power in the 38th minute.
The Mustangs tallied the lone goal of the second half after senior midfielder
David Freeland was taken down from behind in the box resulting in a successful penalty kick by senior
Aaron Douthit.
Midwestern State hits the road to face Ouachita Baptist Sunday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Houston-Victoria fell to 5-7-0.
