#23 Midwestern cruises past Ouachita Baptist, 3-1

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- No. 23 Midwestern State cruised to a 3-1 win over Ouachita Baptist Sunday afternoon at the OBU Soccer Field.

The result extended the Mustangs' most current unbeaten streak to six matches and improved their season record to 8-1-3.

"We played better overall, but we still had a few breakdowns that we could have avoided," MSU coach Doug Elder. "I was proud of the way we responded after they scored their goal. Any win is a good win on the road."

MSU's striker combo of junior VcMor Eligwe and sophomore Len Smith continued to carry the scoring load for the Mustangs.

Eligwe took a feed from senior Fernando Garza in the 5th minute and deposited for his seventh tally of the season. The McKinney product has scored a goal in each of his last four outings and has accounted for six goals in the past six games.

Smith bumped his scoring streak to five consecutive matches by converting an assist from Ben  Clarvis in the 52nd minute to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage. It was the Frisco native team leading eighth goal of the season.

Ouachita Baptist answered with a Rizvan Ceka goal in the 79th minute to pull to within 2-1.

But MSU senior midfielder Aaron Douthit capped all scoring with an unassisted tally in the 89th minute.

Midwestern State continues on the road next weekend with a pair of pivotal Lone Star Conference contests. The Mustangs take on Eastern New Mexico Friday afternoon in Portales before playing rival West Texas A&M Sunday in Canyon.

Ouachita Baptist dropped to 7-8 on the season.
