ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State looks to rebound on the road after battling through 38 fouls to nearly come out on top against No. 4 Tarleton State Saturday night at Wisdom Gym.
The Mustangs battled back from an 8-point deficit with a little over 8 minutes to play and carried a 3-point advantage into the game's final two minutes, but the Texans got a three-point play from Fabian Wilson and connected on eight consecutive free throws to come away with a win in a battle of Top 10 squads.
MSU now faces a team that it has beaten in each of its last seven meetings and in 14 of the last 15 Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.
But the Wildcats proved a feisty foe in the previous meeting back on Dec. 19 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
ACU clawed its way back from a 15-point first half hole to take a brief one-point lead early in the second half before the Mustangs pulled away for their 10th consecutive win.
Midwestern have crashed the offensive glass hard during league play earning 15.4 replays a game which has been good for 15.6 second-chance points per game in 11 league games.
Senior forward
Thomas Colbert and
Darrick Thomas have pulled in 27 offensive boards each (2.5 per game), while
David Terrell has collected 23 offensive caroms (2.1 per game).
Senior guard
Michael Loyd leads the way during conference play with 12.5 points per game to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game.
Junior guard
JaMichael Rivers adds 12.3 points and 3.1 rebounds a game and is joined in double figures by junior forward
Anthony Harris (10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds) and Terrell (10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds).
Harris poured in a team-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Mustangs Saturday night at Tarleton State.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Abilene Christian has won three of its last four games coming into Tuesday night's contest at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats (10-10, 2-8) earned a rivalry week split with Angelo State then won a pair of non-conference contests over Paul Quinn and Arlington Baptist. It's the first time ACU has won consecutive games since starting the season with victories over Truman, East Central and Texas-Permian Basin.
Senior guard Zach Williams leads a trio of Wildcats averaging in double figures at 12.8 points per game and has paced ACU in scoring six times this season including a campaign high of 22 points against Dallas Baptist on Dec. 30.
Junior guard Antonio Bell, a former teammate of MSU's
JaMichael Rivers at Snead State (Ala.), drops in 12.1 points and 2.6 assists a game, while junior guard Kendall Durant adds 11.6 points and 3.7 rebounds a contest and junior forward Armani Williams pitches in 10.1 points a game.
Senior forward Eric Kibi (9.6 points, 6.9 rebounds) and junior Dosh Simms (6.2 points, 6.4 rebounds) add depth to the front line of the Wildcats.
ACU alum Joe Golding is in his first year at the helm of the Wildcats.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State meets Abilene Christian for the 81st time on the hardwood Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs own a commanding 59-21 edge in the longest running active series in program history which dates back to the 1946-47 season.
MSU has played only Wayland Baptist (103) and Texas Wesleyan (82) more times than ACU.
The Mustangs have won the last seven and 14 of the last 15 games of the series dating back to the 2002-03 season with the only break coming on the Wildcats' 82-81 win on Feb. 21, 2004 in Abilene.
Midwestern is 20-17 all time against ACU in Abilene and is 11-8 at Moody Coliseum.
