ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State pulled yet another game out of the fire claiming an 82-80 win over Cameron Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs erased a four-point deficit with 5:23 to play and clinched the victory on
Darrick Thomas' tip-in with 0.8 seconds to play to match the best start in school history at 14-1 while moving to 7-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
But MSU have allowed two consecutive opponents to score 80 points for the first time since the final two regular season games of 2009-10 as two-straight foes have shot 50 percent from the first time since Texas A&M-Commerce (.541) and Angelo State (.509) achieved the feat on Jan. 7 and 13, 2010, respectively.
The Mustangs have continuously displayed the resolve and grit by overcoming 10-point deficits in the second half of three games this season and have trailed in each contest since never trailing in a season opening 100-63 victory over Mid-America Christian on Nov. 11.
Midwestern State is paced by senior guard
Michael Loyd, who averages 12.6 points a game while shooting 40.8 percent from the field. Loyd has knocked down two 3-pointers in each of his last five outings.
Backcourt mate
JaMichael Rivers drops in 11.7 points, while reserve guard
DeJuan Plummer has come on strong to up his season average to 6.2 points in 15.4 minutes a contest.
Senior leader
Keonte' Logan adds a solid all-around line of 3.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds a game to go along with 24 steals.
Junior forward
Anthony Harris leads a deep and talented frontcourt group with 12.1 points and 4.7 rebounds a game, while seniors
David Terrell (9.4 points, 6.6 rebounds),
Darrick Thomas (6.9 points, 5.3 rebounds) and
Thomas Colbert (5.1 points, 4.2 rebounds) play substantial minutes for the Mustangs.
MSU scores 76.7 points a game and allows 62.1.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron had its eight-game winning streak snapped with an 82-80 loss at Midwestern State Wednesday night.
It was the first setback for the Aggies (11-4, 8-2) since taking a 66-41 loss at Tarleton State on Nov. 30 to end a three-game skid which also included setbacks to Central Oklahoma and Science & Arts (Okla.).
Cameron is paced Lone Star Conference scoring leader Milton Garner.
The senior guard from Kansas City is fresh off of a 28-point effort Wednesday night against MSU to bring his season average to 19.6 points per game.
Junior Vinicius Telo (18.8 points, 5.1 rebounds per game) has missed the last six games. The 6-8 junior from Brazil paced the Aggies in four of eight games before sustaining an ankle injury.
Sophomore Desmond Henry (9.9 points, 4.4 rebounds) and senior Thomas Razor (9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds) give the Aggies two more quality options in the backcourt.
Cameron scores 70.9 points a game and allows 67.1.
Wade Alexander is in his fourth season at the helm at Cameron posting a 51-45 record (.531) advancing to the LSC Postseason Tournament in 2009 and 2011.
