PITTSBURG, Kan. - Midwestern State turned up the defense to snap a five-game skid claiming a 25-18, 26-28, 25-15, 25-20 win over Northwest Missouri State Friday morning in the Pitt State Classic at John Lance Arena.
The Mustangs, who upped their season record to 7-6, continue tournament play against Newman (Kan.) at 5 p.m.
Hillary White and
Caitlin Wallace headlined MSU's stellar efforts both at the net and on the back row as the Mustangs limited the Bearcats to a paltry .084 team hitting percentage while forcing 29 errors.
White, a senior outside hitter from North Richland Hills, posted a season-high 28 digs while senior libero
Kiara Jordan added 17 and sophomore
Brandi Flores had 14. Freshman setter
Kristan Aduddell completed her third collegiate double-double by matching a season-high 27 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Wallace got her hands on a season-high six of MSU's 11.0 total blocks for the contest as
Shelbi Stewart added four blocks while White and
Miranda Byrd had three each.
Stewart, a junior from Pflugerville, paced the Mustangs' attack with 11 kills while freshman
Katie Bertling added nine kills and Byrd and Wallace notched eight kills apiece.
Northwest Missouri dropped to 4-9 on the season.
