Mustangs drop fourth straight at #17 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas - No. 17 West Texas A&M proved too much for Midwestern State here Tuesday night as the Lady Buffs rolled to a 25-15, 25-14, 28-26 Lone Star Conference win.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Mustangs, who fell to 6-5 on the season and 2-4 in LSC play, while WT improved to 11-1 and 5-1.

Led by sophomore outside hitters Ashley Davis (12 kills, 3 errors) and Halie Horton (10 kills, 2 errors), as the Lady Buffs combined for 29 kills and six errors in convincing wins over the opening two sets.

MSU battled back in the third set, but was unable to put away any of its three set points at 24-22 or 25-24 to stretch the match even with the strong play of sophomore middle blocker Caitlin Wallace, who put down four kills without an error in the frame.

But the Lady Buffs' strong net play allowed WT to finish off the match culminating in a solo block by Erika Dupree. West Texas A&M combined for 11 total blocks frustrating the Mustangs into 24 attack errors and a .064 team attack percentage.

Wallace paced Midwestern with seven kills while senior middle blocker Miranda Byrd added five kills and four total blocks and senior outside hitter Hillary White had five kills, six digs and three blocks.

Senior libero Kiara Jordan paced the Mustangs' back row efforts with 19 digs.

Midwestern State returns to action Saturday afternoon when the Mustangs play host to Tarleton State in an LSC contest at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
