    For the Record

Midwestern State opens the Lone Star Football Festival against Texas A&M-Commerce at noon.  It's the first of three games in the LSF with North Alabama meeting Abilene Christian at 4:00 and West Texas A&M playing Texas A&M-Kingsville at 8:00.

The Mustangs are looking to go to 2-0 for the sixth straight season.  The last time MSU did not have a 2-0 start was 2005 when they dropped game two of the season to A&M-Commerce 27-25 on Sept. 10..

It's the third neutral site regular season game for Midwestern since resuming football in 1988 and the fourth neutral site game since then including postseason.  Unfortunately, MSU is 0-3 in neutral contests, the last being the Kanza Bowl where MSU fell 45-14 to Washburn (Kan.).

A&M-Commerce is 0-1 after losing at Upper Iowa 15-14 on Sept. 3.  The Lions were off last week.

    Who's Hot

Midwestern State took a quarter to heat up last week, but after doing so it was go time.

Junior quarterback Brandon Kelsey led the offensive charge by throwing for 187 yards on 13-of-20 passes with two touchdowns and an interception.  He also was the game's second-leading rusher with 66 yards on eight carries to account for 253 of the Mustangs 453 total yards.

Sophomore Keidrick Jackson rushed for 82 yards on nine carries (9.1 per carry) and a touchdown last week against Missouri S&T, while senior Lester Bush rolled up 45 yards one nine carries.

Senior David Little hauled in seven of Kelsey's 13 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.  Little continues his climb up the career receiving charts, now ranking third in receptions with 118 and needing just three more to pass Andy Tanner (2006-09) in second with 120.  Little is also fifth with 1,586 receiving yards and fourth in touchdown receptions with15.

Senior linebacker Ty Duncan is the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after recording nine tackles while playing three quarters against S&T.  The MSU defense allowed S&T just 179 total yards in the game.

A&M-Commerce quarterback Yogi Gallegos threw for 220 yards against Upper Iowa in the 15-14 loss to the Peacocks.  Gallegos was 22-of-40 with two touchdowns and an interception.

Sophomore Kenzee Jackson caught seven passes for 93 yards with a touchdown, and returned three kickoffs for 40 yards.

Senior linebacker Cory Whitfield led the Lion defense with eight tackles, including two tackles for losses.

    About the Series
