WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 30th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs didn't take long to pick up their fifth straight victory with a 5-0 waxing of St. Mary's Saturday.
The match took less than an hour-and-a half as the Mustangs (13-4) swept the doubles and the finished off the Rattlers (4-11) with a pair of singles wins. St. Mary's stopped the match after it was decided after completing it's fifth match in three days.
MSU's 11th ranked doubles team of Rozike van Rensburg and
Alex Odell-Michels started the sweep at No. 1, beating Mimi Soy and Erica Carmona 8-0.
Abbie Lewis and
Leah Roberts, playing a No. 3 doubles, posted the same 8-0 score against Anita Qureshi and Rachel Gutierrez.
Ashley Huse and
Lindsey Holcomb moved up to No. 2 doubles and beat Kelly Cooper and Huong Huynh 8-2.
Then it was Holcomb and Huse who put the match away. Huse, a senior from Amarillo, dispatched Gutierrez 6-0, 6-0. Holcomb, a junior from Wichita Falls Rider, ripped Qureshi 6-2, 6-0.
The other four matches were stopped unfinished.
MSU is off until Thursday when they host their final regular season home match of the season against Incarnate Word. The senior day match begins at noon.
