ABILENE, Texas – The 31st-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs ended the regular season in fine fashion Saturday, handling the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs 9-0.
The Mustangs (14-5) met the Bulldogs (7-9) at Hardin-Simmons' Streich Tennis Center.
MSU shook up their doubles lineup in the regular season's final match.
Vjekoslav Stipanic and
Bo Zaputovic paired at No. 1 singles to beat Nick Hernandez and David Schneider 8-0. Stipanic then beat Hernandez at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0, while Zaputovic ripped Ryan Delcambre at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.
Mario Urban and
Luke Joyce joined at No. 2 doubles to win 8-2 over Mark Moellering and Michael Packard before Urban won at No. 2 singles over Moellering 6-0, 6-1 and Joyce triumphed at No. 3 over Schneider 6-0, 6-1.
The sweep was completed as
Chad Meeks and
Jarrod Liston won at No. 3 doubles over Delcambre and Thomas Borum 8-1. Meeks beat Borum at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-2 as
Rory de Boer at No. 5 handled Packard 6-2, 6-1.
The Mustangs are off until they carry the number two seed into the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Friday at Abilene Christian.
