No. 31 Midwestern State stuns No. 19 Cameron 6-3

LAWTON, Okla. – The Midwestern State Mustangs looked to clinch the second seed in next week's Lone Star Conference Tournament when they visited Cameron on Tuesday afternoon. And the No. 31 Mustangs took out the 19th ranked Aggies 6-3 on their home court.

MSU (13-4, 4-1) took two doubles matches and four singles – including the top three positions – in handing the Aggies (15-4, 3-1) their first loss at home of the year and snapped CU's seven-match winning streak.

"The guys were really focused today," said MSU Coach Scott Linn. "They wanted to lock in their position in the conference tournament."

The Mustangs took advantage of wins in extended sets at both No. 2 doubles by Bo Zaputovic and Mario Urban and at No. 3 by Chad Meeks and Jarrod Liston. Zaputovic and Liston beat Thomas Peixoto and Patrick Eichler 9-7, while Meeks and Liston handed Duje Janjic and Jeff Sasser a 9-8 decision with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.

Then in singles, MSU swept the top spots in two sets each.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Vjekoslav Stipanic beat Santiago Romero 6-3, 6-4, and Mario Urban at No. 2 downed Peixoto 6-1, 6-2. Then Luke Joyce handed Janjic a 6-3, 7-6 (5) loss that gave MSU the match.

Tiago Vilarinho also scored a win for MSU at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Jorge Gerosi.

The Mustangs return to the road on Friday in a major regional match at St. Edward's on Friday.
